Tuesday 21st June: 6.30 pm – 21:30 pm

Join award-winning storyteller Danyah Miller to explore how to find, choose and tell songs, rhymes and stories which are suitable for specific age groups.

Discuss how and why different stories support and nourish young people through the various stages of their growth. Consider what the ‘recommended’ ages for theatre shows and ‘classifications’ for books mean in terms of child development and receptivity.

Growing up can be an arduous task, stories support young people on this journey and we can be the Tale-Tellers to help them on their way.

“Danyah is an incredibly positive, friendly and knowledgeable trainer. Her love of all things story-related is infectious and one cannot help but feel inspired by her to take that huge leap and have a go for oneself.” – Dawn, Teaching Assistant

About the course

This course has been created as a result of Danyah being asked time and again to share her knowledge and experience about which stories to tell at which time…

This 3-hour talk will include plenty of time for discussion, debate and questions.

About the tutor

Danyah has been sharing stories professionally, as a storyteller, solo performer, writer and trainer, with adults and young people for over 25 years. She trained in drama, dance and English at Bretton Hall College and later studied improvisation, mime and physical theatre at Lecoq in Paris.

Danyah has starred in five theatrical solo storytelling shows and adapted ‘The Secret Garden’ into an imaginative, educational and playful experience to be enjoyed at home. As a storytelling trainer she works nationally in a range of settings, venues, festivals and on local radio. Danyah was a workshop leader at The International School of Storytelling for over 10 years.

She’s been humbled to hear the child who doesn’t speak share his first story and the one who disrupts the class focus and find a place for herself. She’s witnessed restless and wild children sit in silent awe, a disparate class of thirty come together as a family and youths rise to the challenges of reading and writing, exceeding all expectations.
