Puppet Festival: Club Origami
Aimed at ages 2-5
Duration: 55 minutes approx. including Stay and Play
Rip, fold and scrumple!
Shall we see what we can make with a single square of paper?
As you scrunch the paper, see how your imagination begins to dance…
Dive into the magical world of Club Origami, an immersive and interactive dance show inviting family audiences to create, imagine and explore whole new ways of thinking, playing and moving. Dance, fashion and live music meet the magic of origami to sweep us up on a spirited and inspiring adventure in a land made purely of paper and play.
About the Company
Ichi Ni San is dedicated to creating imaginative, interactive, multi-disciplinary dance performances for children and adults. Based in the UK our work is inspired by playfulness, curiosity and the intersection of British and Japanese cultures.
In 2021 we premiered Club Origami, an interactive and immersive dance experience commissioned and produced by Little Big Dance. Since then, the show has toured to 17 countries across Europe, Asia, Oceania, and the Americas including Ireland, Mexico, Denmark, Norway, Japan, Australia and Thailand reaching audiences of all ages with its blend of contemporary dance and paper play.
From 2022 to 2023, supported by What Dance Can Do, we extended our reach beyond traditional theatre spaces touring Club Origami directly to children in hospitals in France, Switzerland, and Italy.
At Ichi Ni San we’re passionate about designing performance experiences that invite everyone to explore, imagine, and connect — wherever they are in the world.
Age guidance
Club Origami is aimed at ages 2-5. It is a gentle and playful non-verbal dance show, followed by a short play session.
Most of the audience will be seated on the floor, and there will also be some chairs and soft blocks at the back.
In the beginning of the show, the performers give everyone a sheet of origami paper to make whatever they wish. They then collect what you create and use it in the show to make dance. For most of the show, the audience stay in their seats to watch, but you can leave and re-enter the auditorium at any time. Towards the end of the show, the performance space is filled with paper and children can come into the space to play and dance with the performers. There is also some time after the show when you can stay and carry on playing.
All ages are welcome at our shows, and age ranges can only be a rough guide, but please bear in mind that Club Origami was not specially designed for babies and toddlers. Some may find the number of people and the amount of paper in the space a little overwhelming.
