Puppetry Foundation Course (Thursdays)

10-week course: Thursdays 23 April - 2 July

This course is designed for absolute beginners, it is open to all those who have always wanted to have a go at puppetry but never had the opportunity to do so. Explore a variety of different puppet forms and learn the basics of puppet manipulation and making over 10 weeks.

This term the course will be delivered in-person and will focus on object theatre, glove puppets, shadow puppetry, table-top puppets and three-person puppets.

The course includes an opportunity for a simple make you can take home with you.

This course has 10 sessions between 23 April and 2 July (half term break on 28 May). Please note that when you book a place, only the start date and time is shown on the booking system, but your ‘ticket’ covers the full event as detailed above.

 

About the Tutor

Oliver Smart is passionate about puppetry and object theatre in all its forms. He has produced cutting edge experimental theatre in the UK and internationally and has worked with Disney, Channel 4, The National Theatre, Nickelodeon, ITV, Sony Entertainment Europe, Theatre Royal Bath and is the Director of Folded Feather.

He facilitates/has facilitated puppetry design and performance courses at the Little Angel Theatre, Central School of Speech and Drama, The London College of Fashion, Rose Bruford College of Performing Arts, WAC Arts, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, St Mary’s University and the Curious School of Puppetry.

Oliver has an award winning solo visual arts practice (RA Sculpture Award 2022) and has collaborated on projects with Ingrid Pollard (shortlisted Turner Prize 2022), Dominic Harris, Asif Khan and Kings College London.

He is currently a visiting Lecturer at Kingston School of Art.
