Relaxed Performance - The Flying Bath
2:30pm on Sunday 24th May
Aimed at ages 2-5
Duration: 45 minutes approx.
Based on the original book The Flying Bath © Julia Donaldson and David Roberts 2014, published by Macmillan Children’s Books.
When everyone has left the house in the morning, the bath toys spring into action and head off on exciting adventures in their magical flying bath! From giving a muddy piglet a shower to putting out a fire for a frightened baboon, they have water at the ready for any emergency – as long as they’re home for the children’s bath time at the end of the day.
Julia Donaldson and David Roberts’ playful and adventurous story splashes into life in this adaptation featuring catchy songs, quirky bath toys and everyday heroes.
Who is a Relaxed Performance for?
Relaxed Performances are provided for people who would benefit from a more relaxed environment, or are uncomfortable with sudden lighting changes or loud noises, including those with an Autistic Spectrum Condition, sensory or communication needs or a learning disability. During these performances, we have fewer people in the audience and may adapt the show to lower the sound levels and keep the lighting at a higher level so that you are not sitting in darkness. If you require a friend or assistant to sign for you, this is a good performance to come to due to the higher lighting levels.
Relaxed Performances are open for anyone to book, but if the performance is showing as having low availability next to the Book Tickets button, please consider booking at another time to allow these tickets to go to those who would most benefit from them.
Please note that the usual guidance around lower recommended ages applies. Little Angel Theatre is a child friendly, family friendly and inclusive environment. At all Little Angel shows, you can: bring babies and children of any age (but please consider the age recommendations); see the show as an adult or group of adults, without bringing children; leave and re-enter the auditorium at any time; respond vocally. A Relaxed Performance has additional measures in place which are for the benefit of children and adults with additional needs, so we don’t recommend that you book a Relaxed Performance just because you have a baby or toddler or because your child is under the recommended age for the show.
Age Guidance and Relaxed Performances
The Flying Bath is aimed at ages 2-5. Our shows for this age group are lively but gentle, with simple stories and appealing characters. Small children are kept engaged with visual wonders and effective use of music and language.
This show has standard theatre seating – rows of benches facing the stage. At the Relaxed Performance there will be up to 60 people watching the show (this is about two thirds of the capacity of the theatre).
This isn’t an interactive show and doesn’t have any particular points where the audience are asked to contribute, but we welcome vocal responses. You can leave and re-enter the auditorium at any time, and at a Relaxed Performance audience members are also able to move around within the auditorium, although the designated performance area, walkways and fire exits must remain clear at all times.
In the children’s game, all the animals they find need some help. These include a baboon who is scared because his tree is on fire, but all is resolved quickly and happily. The fire is represented with red rubber gloves. Please also check the visual story, available here, which has more detail and is especially useful for those with autism, sensory processing disorder or associated conditions.
All ages are welcome at our shows and age ranges can only be a rough guide, but please bear in mind that The Flying Bath was not specially designed for babies and toddlers. A show recommended from under age two would usually have more relaxed seating, smaller audience numbers and strong sensory and interactive elements. Please especially note that the Relaxed Performance is not intended as a performance for babies or children under the recommended age. Our usual guidance around lower recommended ages applies.
Relaxed Performance Tickets
- All tickets are £10 at Relaxed Performances.
- Adults who require another adult to assist them on their visit can book a free ticket for a personal assistant. This is available online, but if it’s your first time booking one you’ll need to contact the box office first so we can add the eligibility tag to your account. Instructions for booking online once your account has been marked as eligible can be found here. Please note that free assistant tickets are not available for those accompanying children.
- For full-price performances we offer a Children’s Access Discount, but this does not apply to Relaxed Performances, where all tickets are already at a lower price than other performances. More info on the discount for full-price performances can be found here.
- If you require a wheelchair space in the auditorium at either of our venues, it is best to book by phone. This is because we need to take extra seats off sale, which is not currently possible with online booking.
- For other seating requirements, you can book tickets online if you prefer, but need to contact Box Office in advance of the performance to reserve seats. You can do this by phone or by email.
