A curious child unleashes magical powers, with the ability to transform everyday objects into the extraordinary! But when the spells don’t stop, the young apprentice learns that all things must be handled with care, especially magic.

This spellbinding show, inspired by Goethe’s classic poem, celebrates and restores the endangered art of marionette puppetry at Little Angel Theatre.

Don’t miss this magical highlight of the Children’s Puppet Festival, featuring handcrafted puppets from Little Angel Theatre’s workshops.

This show is proudly supported by the National Heritage Lottery Fund.

Age Guidance

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is aimed at ages 6-11. Our shows for this age group have storylines that can be followed by children from around age 6. They work for a wide age range and there will be elements to engage the older children, and adults, in the audience, for example music, puppetry techniques, more complex ideas, language or humour. Children under the recommended age can often enjoy the visuals but may not follow everything, and may not stay engaged. If the show contains any parts likely to be scary or upsetting for anyone, these will be mentioned in the FAQ below.

How will we be seated?

This show has standard theatre seating – rows of benches facing the stage. There will be up to 90 people watching the show.

Can children join in?

This isn’t an interactive show and there are no parts where the audience are asked to contribute. The audience stay in their seats while watching, but you can leave and re-enter the auditorium at any time.

Is there anything that might be scary?

The story explores themes like responsibility, curiosity, and consequences of misusing power. There are a few mildly tense scenes, such as when the magic gets out of control and objects start moving on their own. These moments are designed to be exciting rather than frightening, and they resolve quickly. There may be comic chaos (like objects flying around or exaggerated magical mishaps), but nothing intended to be harmful or realistic.
