How do I spark a child’s love of stories?
How can I create calm, connected moments in busy days?
How do I encourage imagination without relying on screens?

If these questions feel familiar, you’re not alone. In the whirlwind of early childhood – nappies, snacks, school runs and sleepless nights – it can be hard to find calm, let alone magic. Storytelling can change that.

In this interactive 2-day workshop, award-winning storyteller Danyah Miller shares her playful, practical approach to oral storytelling with Under 5s, including cloths, props and natural objects. Whether you’re an early years educator, librarian, parent or grandparent you know the power of a good story.

But what if you could tell stories anytime, anywhere – without needing a book, screen or script? Designed for both home and educational settings, you’ll leave with simple tools to:

  • Develop children’s listening, language, and literacy skills
  • Use stories to calm, connect and build emotional security
  • Spark creativity, confidence and a love of learning

Whether you’re seeking fresh inspiration for the classroom, library circle time, or family life, this is an opportunity for you to reconnect – with yourself, your stories and your little ones. Come as you are – Leave with stories in your heart, tools in your pocket and a renewed sense of wonder.

Please note that when you book a place, only the start date and time is shown on the booking system, but your ‘ticket’ covers the full event as detailed above.

About the Tutor:

Danyah Miller is an international solo performer, writer and story trainer. She is passionate about oral stories and storytelling and their power to change lives.

Danyah’s aim is to bring stories and storytelling to every family, everywhere. ‘I’ve been inspired to hear the child who doesn’t speak share his first story; the one who disrupts the class focus and find a place for herself. I’ve witnessed restless and wild children sit in silent awe; a disparate class of thirty come together as a family and youths and young adults rise to the challenges of reading and writing, exceeding all expectations.’

She studied drama, dance and English at Bretton Hall College, and later improvisation, mime and physical theatre at Lecoq, Paris.

Danyah’s adapted / written and starred in five theatrical solo storytelling shows, three are award winning including ‘I Believe in Unicorns’, by Michael Morpurgo, which has enjoyed three West End seasons. She adapted and recorded Hodgson Burnett’s ‘The Secret Garden’ as part of a unique ‘Story-in-a-Box experience. For two years Danyah was the regular storyteller on BBC3CR.

Danyah regularly delivers online and in-person storytelling training across a wide range of settings and was a workshop leader at The International School of Storytelling for over 10 years.

Her book ‘Seven Secrets of Spontaneous Storytelling’ is written for adults who want to share stories with children. It’s available now from Hawthorn Press, online and in all good book retailers.
