Hands On: Marionettes

Try your hand at this protected heritage craft – Marionettes. A once in a lifetime opportunity to use marionettes made by the best makers in the UK; Lyndie Wright, John Roberts and Oliver Hymans. Have a crash course in marionette manipulation, learn how to; hold a marionette, walk, sit, kneel and lots more. Finish off with a back stage tour of our very own marionette balcony – the only one in the UK!

Our ‘Hands On’ sessions are designed to be fun, highly practical and accessible to adults, no experience necessary – just a desire to learn, give things a go and get stuck in!

Each session will have a different and specific focus, and we will spend the hour and a half diving deep into our area of focus through practical exploration. Most of our ‘Hands On’ courses focus on the performative side of puppetry, but occasionally we will look at a focus subject through the lens of design and making (if so, this will be outlined in the event overview). This means the sessions are especially suited to people wanting to develop their performance technique, as well as practical skills in devising and creating theatre with puppetry.
