“We have been coming along to Little Angel’s Community Activities for 4 or 5 years now. We keep coming back because there’s so many lovely activities, even during COVID we had online sessions. We feel like we are really a part of the community.”

Since 2015, Little Angel Theatre has been offering a wide community programme where we engage local people with workshops, after school clubs and family activities every single week. As well as producing award-winning puppet shows, we are committed to ensuring that our spaces work with and for our Islington community, and that everyone feels part of our journey.

This is especially important to us as, when housing costs are considered, our borough has the 4th highest rate of child poverty in the country. In such stretching circumstances, many local residents might otherwise face significant barriers accessing our work,.

We aim to combat this by providing an entirely free community programme consisting of a wide range of fun activities for residents of all ages and backgrounds. Such as our children’s drama club ‘Little Wings’, our weekly afterschool arts club ‘Crafternoon’, our adults knitting group ‘Knit and Natter’ and our monthly ‘Arts and Chat’ evenings.

Our community programme is busier than ever, with 3,511 recorded instances of engagement between March 2023 and March 2024. But this comes at a cost, and with funding cuts from local authorities taking its toll on our budgets, we risk having to pull back on this wide-reaching programme. We are doing all that we can to avoid this, but we need your help.

In 2024 we are aiming to:

  • Expand our community programme with 2 new projects that appeal to the skills and interests of our regular participants.
  • Begin to renovate our community garden (based in our studios) alongside residents.
  • Provide 4000 opportunities for participation for our local residents.

“I must say that as a mother of 2 SEN and autistic children, I am delighted by the way yourself and all your staff at Little Angel Theatre have accommodated our needs as a family. We feel really comfortable taking part in activities and Little Angel Theatre has proven to be an inclusive place where everyone can be respected, valued and enjoy themselves.”
