The blank page is a writer’s nightmare, and a blank stage can be a devisors dread. Creating something from nothing, or transforming a piece that already exists into a new form, can be a daunting task.

This one day workshop will share some of the tips and tricks Charlotte has gathered over her 10 years of creating theatre with puppets. These include: working with simple text stimuli, using the puppet design as inspiration for character, allowing music to inform choices and the relationship between puppeteer and puppet. This course is a great opportunity to test your ideas in a safe space with like-minded practitioners.

About the Tutor:

Charlotte Irwin has been directing and performing with puppets since 2013, and has been a full time member of staff at Little Angel Theatre for nearly 2 years. Charlotte assisted in the creation of Masterchef Mo and the Missing Cake, and has devised a new suitcase style birthday party show, The Imagination Train. Charlotte was Associate Director on Finding Santa at Bloomsbury Theatre. Charlotte runs a wide variety of adult learning sessions and tutors MA Applied Theatre Guildhall students for a term as they create and perform a suitcase style show.

Charlotte has performed around England, and brought a self devised show to Pakistan. She has collaborated with Tangled Feet on their devised pieces, and with Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop during the pandemic, leading online craft and performance workshops for children in the UK and Pakistan.

One place on this course will be offered for free as a bursary.
