Pigeon wants to share his poetry talent with the world, but he is laughed at by the other birds. However, they all love the peacock just for his flamboyant feathers! How will Pigeon win the birds over and follow his dreams? Follow Pigeon as he hatches a mischievous plan to dazzle the crowd!
The Pigeon and The Peacock is an expressive and interactive play for children and their families, portrayed through marionette puppetry and live, jazz-influenced music. The story powerfully portrays the path Pigeon takes to find self-confidence and how he teaches the other birds about empathy and that beauty is more than feather deep!

Age Guidance

The Pigeon and the Peacock is aimed at ages 5-11. Our shows for this age group have storylines that can be followed by children from around age 5. They work for a wide age range and there will be elements to engage the older children, and adults, in the audience, for example music, puppetry techniques, more complex ideas, language or humour. Children under the recommended age can often enjoy the visuals but may not follow everything, and may not stay engaged. If the show contains any parts likely to be scary or upsetting for anyone, these will be mentioned in the FAQ below.

How will we be seated?

This show has standard seating for our studios. There are rows with chairs and soft blocks facing the stage, and there may be some mats on the floor at the front. There will be up to 60 people watching the show.

Can children join in?

The audience stay in their seats while watching, but you can leave and re-enter the auditorium at any time. There is one point where a puppet comes into the audience, and at the end of the show children are invited to place an origami pigeon on a tree. There will be a chance to ask questions after the show.

Is there anything that might be scary or sad?

The pigeon feels sad and angry when he is mocked by some of the other birds. This is expressed by the music and puppetry, and described by the narration. He gains confidence as the story develops and we see him overcome these judgments and find happiness.

Is the story difficult for younger children to follow?

The show explores mental health, judgement and confidence. The narration is in verse and the pace and language of the storytelling is not aimed at very young children.

With not much thought and no doubt in their mind
All the birds hurried, right then, to sign
Their signatures gave the pigeon the right
To hold his new troupe and he filled with delight
