Plan your visit

Our story begins with a red moon rising.
But why is the moon red?
Now it’s turned blue and it’s crying.
Do the ladybirds know why?
Perhaps the little pond can tell us?
Or maybe the rabbits have the answer…

Join Lulu, Monty, Gusta and their friend Tom on a vibrant and colourful journey in English Touring Opera’s new opera for babies Under the Little Red Moon. Made in consultation with pediatricians, Under the Little Red Moon explores the development of language with the help of music and movement, composed by Russell Hepplewhite.

“Take your tinies and open their eyes and ears”

Age guidance

Under the Little Red Moon is aimed at ages 6 to 24 months.

Our shows for babies and toddlers are multisensory experiences, with short performances followed by play sessions. They take place in our Studios, where we aim to create the best environment for a happy and relaxed introduction to theatre.

English Touring Opera have designed the show especially for this age group in consultation with paediatricians at King’s College Hospital.

How will we be seated?

Audience sit on the floor around a circular performance space, and we recommend that your baby sits on your lap or just in front of you. Cushions are provided. There will be up to 20 babies and up to 40 adults watching the show.

Can children join in and explore?

Every performance is followed by a hands-on stay and play session. During the performance itself, we’re really keen to encourage the babies to respond however they like, and gurgle, laugh, cry, talk – they don’t have to be quiet!  We understand that babies can sometimes get a little fidgety or restless. However, because the performers are moving around, it isn’t safe for your little ones to wander during the performance – and we ask that you gently bring them back to you if they do. The cast will bring the interaction directly to them. There will be an opportunity for them (and you) to explore the performance space as part of the stay and play.
