Making Simple Animal Rod Puppets

This course takes place over two days, Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th September.

10:00am – 5:00pm

Learn to design and create simple animal rod puppets from basic, inexpensive and easily sourced materials.

Puppet Maker Judith Hope will guide participants through the processes and techniques used to create charming animal characters, suitable for small scale theatre.

The course structure will include design, incorporating simple movement, material choices and sourcing (including glues for various surfaces) and finished aesthetics. Participants should have a completed puppet by the end of the course and have gained the skills and experience to create many more. Suitable for all levels of experience,

 

About the tutor

Judith Hope is a London based puppet maker. She creates a diverse range of puppets for theatre, commercials and events, across the UK and internationally.

Much of Judith’s work is designed to interact with audiences in outdoor walkabout settings, as she aims to draw viewers into a world of magic and make believe. Inspired by the strange and the wonderful, Judith is also known for her connections to vintage and curious objects, encompassing small scale suitcase theatre.

Judith was the puppet designer on two of Little Angel Theatres productions last year, The Smartest Giant in Town and There May be a Castle.
